Among her many high profile endeavors, Bannister worked for U.S. Senator Phil Gramm in several capacities. As West Texas Regional Director, she oversaw 70 counties for Gramm for many years. She joined the Phil Gramm for President 1996 campaign as a Regional Finance Director in Texas. She then went on to become a member of the Senior Lead Advance Staff, conducting earned media efforts in Iowa, Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska, Washington and Louisiana. She also served as travel aide to federal and statewide elected officials in various states as they campaigned for Gramm.
During Bannister's time with Gramm, in coordination with the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), she worked on national campaigns such as U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison in Texas, U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell in Georgia who won over longtime incumbent Wyche Fowler, and the Bush/Quayle 1992 presidential re-election campaign. In addition to her political campaign work for the NRSC, she coordinated policy forums in top media markets across the country.
Bannister then served as State Finance Director for Texas Governor Rick Perry's successful 1998 campaign for Lieutenant Governor. Raising $12.5 million in 18 months, Bannister and the campaign broke all fundraising records at the time for a Lieutenant Governor's race in Texas. This catapulted Perry into a key position in state politics where he has since gone on to become Governor of Texas.
Bannister was raised in Ft. Worth, Texas and continues to work with her family's fourth generation ranching operation in Texas. She currently resides in Austin and enjoys spending time in the country, playing golf, and traveling.
